“Ours is a company born from a lifestyle we share with others who, like us, are consumers of the metropolitan existence,” says Larry Beard Jr., co-owner and designer with Bruce Littlehorn for their sustainably minded, Denver-based firm urbandwellers. Their stylish line of furniture, accessories and water features aims at outfitting city spaces with simple pieces that maximize function while minimizing waste. The foundation is simple: Reclaimed, recycled and renewable materials yield imaginative products like their go-cart coffee table and wool coasters, while meditative nuances influence their tranquil water features.

Inspired by their personal needs and experiences rather than popular trends, their ultimate goal is to design and engineer products that their customers can use and live with on a daily basis. “As urban dwellers ourselves, we’re acutely aware of the unique needs that stem from living in an urban space,” says Littlehorn, “yet we also understand that everyone interacts with their spaces differently.”

OUR WORK IS…
LB: Grid-based, minimalist, structured, organized and textural, in color palettes that are inspired by nature.

DREAM COLLABORATION:
LB: Teaming with Herman Miller on a series of furniture designed for the urban lifestyle.
BL: Designing and building a very large water feature — say, several stories tall — in a public outdoor space.

FAVORITE ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENT:
BL: The Golden Gate Bridge. It serves such a noble purpose, yet does so quietly and reliably. From a distance it looks delicate. Up close it looks massive and strong. Like all things mechanical it requires maintenance, and like all things it is impermanent.

DREAM DINNER PARTY GUESTS:
LB: Robinson Crusoe, Holly Hunt, Miles Davis, Erykah Badu and Michael Jackson.
BL: Albert Einstein, Siddhartha Gautama, Archimedes and Eckhart Tolle—maybe not all at the same time.
